What an exciting time to be a fan of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

As audiences excitedly look ahead to the release of HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series, the popular audiobook platform Audible has just unveiled their star-studded cast for the upcoming Harry Potter audio recording series.

As with past Audible releases, this new version of Harry Potter looks to the talents of several prominent international stars. For example, decorated actor Hugh Laurie of House fame will take center stage as the wizened headmaster of Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledore, in all seven audio recordings of the book.

Joining Laurie is Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen, who will appear as Harry’s malevolent arch nemesis, Lord Voldemort. Riz Ahmed, of Rogue One, will portray Hogwarts’ enigmatic Potions instructor Professor Snape, while Doctor Who’s Michelle Gomez will play the stern Head of Gryffindor, Professor McGonagall.

Meanwhile, several different actors of varying ages will portray the title hero and his similarly adolescent classmates, allowing the characters to “age” appropriately from one audiobook to the next.

Matilda the Musical’s Frankie Treadaway will portray Harry in the first three audio recordings, before Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat‘s Jaxon Knopf takes over the role in the final four books.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘s Max Lester and Starlight Express‘ Arabella Stanton will similarly portray the younger versions of Harry’s friends, Ron and Hermione respectively, in the first three audiobooks. From book four onwards, they’ll be portrayed by Matilda the Musical‘s Rhys Mulligan and Wolf King‘s Nina Barker-Francis.

Joining them will be around 200 ensemble performers, who will play various characters linked to Harry’s adventures in the larger Wizarding World.

“Magic is coming alive as these brilliant actors lift iconic characters off the page and into our ears,” said Chief Content Officer at Audible, Rachel Ghiazza. “Hearing these spellbinding performances in our state-of-the-art studios has been nothing short of extraordinary.”

“We’re overjoyed to share that fans of all ages can now mark their fall calendars for a truly breathtaking experience with Audible and Pottermore Publishing – one that promises to reignite the magic for longtime fans and captivate a whole new generation of listeners,” Ghiazza continued.

The first audiobook in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, will be released on Audible this coming November 4.
