Halle Bailey is stepping out in style for the 2025 Met Gala!
On Monday, May 5, the Little Mermaid star, 25, appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City wearing a sparkly tailored-suit dress, keeping in theme for the night with a look centered around the museum’s exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”.
Days before hitting the carpet, Bailey spoke with PEOPLE at Zales’ “Own It” campaign launch party about her look, simply teasing that she was excited to wear “really cool jewelry.” The artist delivered, as she arrived dripping in a dazzling head-to-toe two-toned Coach look, according to Cosmopolitan.
The look consisted of a pinstriped dress suit, but instead of regular stripes, the actress donned bejeweled ones that ran down the length of her navy blue and white outfit. She accessorized the look with a black beaded net veil that covered her face and glittery strappy heels.
As for how she prepped for her walk up the famous steps, the singer revealed to PEOPLE that a facial and lymphatic drainage massage were on her to-do list. “You just want to look snatched and cute and have fun,” she said.

In October 2024, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala, as well as LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code, which is slightly different from the theme, is “Tailored for You.” It is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The gala also has a star-studded host committee: Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, as well as Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.

While she skipped attending the Met Gala in 2024, the mom of 16-month-old son Halo attended the event in 2023, wearing a white, floor-length floral halter gown from Gucci with her hair styled in a short, curly bob.
Bailey made headlines that night when she appeared in a selfie with Billie Eilish and several other celebs, giving fans a look behind the scenes at one of the biggest nights in fashion.
The “Bad Guy” singer snapped a bathroom mirror shot that also featured Elle Fanning and Maya Hawke taken at the event.
Holding up her arm for the photo, Eilish smiled in her gothic black lace gown while her pals surrounded her in an array of frilly white dresses.
The Great star Fanning smiled like Eilish, while Stranger Things actress Hawke stuck out her tongue. Meanwhile, Little Mermaid star Bailey gave a bit of attitude for the playful pic.
Playing on the “no smoking no vaping” sign on display, Eilish posted a couple of her own “no smoking” sign stickers over the Instagram Story.
Bailey first appeared at the event in 2021 alongside her sister Chloe Bailey, 26, who sported a sexy all-white gown from Rodarte that featured a high slit, sleeves that doubled as a cape and massive train. For her part, Halle wore pink bodysuit with a plunging V-neckline and fringe details, also from Rodarte, along with dangling diamond earrings.
