Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t have any regrets when it comes to Goop’s viral “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle.
During an appearance at Vishen Lakhiani’s Manifesting Summit on May 18, the 52-year-old actress talked about how the candle ended up on the website in the first place in 2020 and pushed back against critics.

“That product is so fascinating because we were messing around with different scents one day, and I smelled something and I was like, ‘Oh, that smells like…you know,’ ” she explained. “I was joking, and then [Heretic’s founder Douglas Little] was like ‘Oh we should make that a candle and put it on the site.’ ”
Paltrow recalled jokingly agreeing to making it a product but then was shocked when “all of a sudden, it was literally on the website.”
“Then we broke the internet again,” she continued. “It took us a long time to live that one down, but I kept it [up on the site].”

Goop originally released the candle back in January 2020 and was discontinued in late 2023, per E! News. While the product started out as a joke, Paltrow explained that “I kept it on the site because there’s an aspect to women’s sexuality that we’re socialized to feel a lot of shame.”
“I loved this kind of punk idea,” she continued. “We are beautiful, and we are awesome and go f*** yourself.”
