Gwyneth Paltrow and Apple Martin share more than just DNA — they have similar style philosophies, too.
The Goop founder took to Instagram on Wednesday, May 14, in celebration of Martin’s 21st birthday, and shared a series of stylish snaps of her daughter — amid a series of sentimental childhood photos — that had fans of the mother-daughter duo seeing double.
“To the light of my life, my ray of sunshine, my hilarious, brilliant, best buddy. Happy 21st birthday!!” Paltrow captioned the Reel.
She continued, “You are exceptionally kind and utterly wonderful. I am incredibly proud of your strength and your intellect. Your goofiness and your big laugh. You are just the best. The absolute best. Thank god for you, Apple Martin. I cannot wait to see what this next chapter brings for you. Love, Mama.”

In addition to intimate childhood photos, the Reel included more recent photos of Martin, whose father is Paltrow’s ex-husband Chris Martin, that showed off her sense of style. One of the images featured the 21-year-old posing in a black high-neck top and white pants worn with a matching black belt.

Paltrow wore a similar look in 2002 during Chanel’s fashion show at the Accelerated School. For the fashionable day out, Paltow donned a loose-fitting, white knit set with delicate gold chain details. Underneath the jacket, she wore a black high-neck tank top that showed a hint of skin, much like how her daughter did several years in the future.

The video also featured Martin in a look that was reminiscent of Paltrow’s signature ’90s style — a brief moment in the Instagram Reel shows her wearing a long black coat over burgundy trousers with brown leather Doc Martens.

Martin accessorized with round black sunglasses and a black leather bag; her natural waves fell effortlessly at her shoulders and cascaded down the top of the coat.
The look was similar to a 1998 outfit that Paltrow wore during a Los Angeles outing with her then-boyfriend, Ben Affleck.
The Politician actress wore a fuzzy zippered coat in black over a black crew neck top. Paltrow completed the outfit with a brown satin skirt, black leather shoes and black square sunglasses. Instead of a black leather bag, Paltrow opted for a canvas tote with black and white stripes by Kate Spade New York.

“She’s breathtaking! She looks just like you in Great Expectations,” one fan in the comments section wrote, referring to Paltrow starring as Estella in the 1998 movie opposite Ethan Hawke.
Another user added that Martin is Paltrow’s “gorgeous TWIN!” in the set of photos.
“I love you so so much mama,” Martin sweetly wrote in the comments section of her mother’s post. “Thank you for being the best mom and for allowing me to grow and discover myself. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
It’s no surprise that Martin’s style is looking eerily similar to her mother’s. In 2021, Paltrow revealed she and her daughter share clothes all the time.
“Apple borrows from my closet,” she told PEOPLE at the time. “Although I did take a hoodie from her about two weeks ago. So, fair enough. But she likes my T-shirts and my shoes. She likes my shoes.”
