Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin continued to live under the same roof after separating — ahem, consciously uncoupling.

“I think, now, people are thinking about different ways of separating and doing it,” Paltrow, 52, shared during an episode of Erin and Sara Foster‘s “The World’s First Podcast,” released on Thursday, April 24. “Chris and I lived together for like a year when we were already separated. I do think that it’s possible.”

Paltrow clarified that she doesn’t think that it’s always “easy” to make things work with an ex — but it’s definitely something that can be done.

“Ultimately, if you’re saying you want to put your children first, then find a way not to do the thing where you’re cursing out the other one behind their back or dropping the kid at the end of the driveway,” the actress continued. “It means a lot in separation and divorce.”

Paltrow explained that it becomes “much easier” for children involved if their parents don’t hate each other.

The actress was married to Coldplay singer Martin, 48, from 2003 to 2016. The two share kids, daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses, 19.

When Paltrow and Martin publicly announced their divorce, they use the term “conscious uncoupling” which has since been adopted by many.

“I don’t mind being the poster child for it,” Paltrow admitted. “What I think was interesting was how upset it made people when it happened.”

The Goop founder thinks the term was “triggering” to some people who didn’t have the same relationship with an ex.

“I think it’s hard to hear that if there was a very painful situation in your life that you could have done something potentially to make it less difficult,” she continued. “It’s a hard thing to look back. I have a lot of understanding for people who were triggered by it. I get it. But at the same time, I don’t regret it at all.”

Paltrow told podcast hosts Sara and Erin that people thank her “all the time” for “creating this template” of a healthy split.

Paltrow married writer and director Brad Falchuk in 2018 and Martin has moved on with fellow actress Dakota Johnson.

“I think we have a really beautiful, big blended family,” Paltrow said. “No, it is not perfect. But I actually don’t mind being the poster child for that, because if I feel like I could have impacted one kid’s experience, because their parents are like, ‘We can figure out a way to stay friends.’ It was worth it.”
