Gwyneth Paltrow is sharing an emotional memory of her late father Bruce Paltrow.
On this week’s episode of her Goop podcast, the actress and lifestyle guru recalled visiting Paris as a child with her dad, where they “stayed at the Ritz, and he took me to all the museums.”
“All we did was see art everywhere we went. And he let me order French fries for breakfast, and he let me take a walk by myself — I was 10 years old, I’ll never forget that,” Gwyneth, 52, continued. “He let me walk around the Place Vendôme all by myself.”
Despite all the memories they made together while in the City of Light, perhaps the most poignant one came during their flight back to London.
“He said, ‘Do you know why I took you to Paris — just you and me, and Mommy and Jake didn’t come with us?’ ” Gwyneth recalled. “I said, ‘No, why?’ And he said, ‘Because I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who will always love you, no matter what.’ “

Bruce died in October 2002 at age 58 after a years-long battle with throat cancer. In the years since, Gwyneth has been open about her love for and memories of him.
Responding to a fan who asked during an August 2023 Q&A on social media, “What do u miss the most from your dad?” Gwyneth told the camera in a video, “I miss my dad so much, and I miss his humor. I was just on a walk with a friend this morning, and even she was talking about the things that my dad used to say. His phrases.”
“He was kind of a philosopher, in his own way and just had the most brilliant one-liners,” the Academy Award winner continued.
Gwyneth, whose mom is fellow actress Blythe Danner, also discussed how her filmmaker father helped her, adding, “He helped me get through life and [taught me] how to deal with a lot of stuff, and he would have helped me keep perspective all the time.”

Later that year, in November 2023, Gwyneth celebrated what would have been Bruce’s 80th birthday with a tribute to the late director-producer on social media.
Sharing a black-and-white photo of her dad, the Marty Supreme actress wrote, “I wish you were here to celebrate your 80th today. I miss you and love you more than ever, if that were possible.”
Bruce and Danner, now 82, met while working on a Broadway play together in 1969 and married the following year.
The couple shared son Jake Paltrow, 49, in addition to Gwyneth.
