Two years after the 2023 civil trial that took the internet by storm, Gwyneth Paltrow is speaking out about the case which originated on the ski slopes of Utah.

Paltrow was a guest on “The World’s First Podcast” on April 24, where she opened up to hosts Erin and Sara Foster about the hit-and-run ski trial which was tried in front of a jury. Paltrow was sued by Terry Sanderson for $3.1 million after a 2016 skiing collision on a Utah mountain. She countersued for $1, saying Sanderson was at fault, and the jury agreed, deliberating for less than three hours before ruling in Paltrow’s favor.

“I have to say, the idea that someone could ski into your back and knock you down and then sue you,” Paltrow said. “I was like, ‘This is everything that’s wrong with our legal system.’”

“It was ridiculous,” she continued. “That’s why I felt like I had to fight it. I was like, ‘I’m not going to be shaken down here.’ I’m not doing that.”

The trial was notable for media scrutiny of Paltrow’s court fashion and demeanor, as well as her grace in victory, after which she wished Sanderson well as she departed the courtroom.

Following the verdict, Paltrow released a statement saying, “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”
