Great British Bake Offteased its return for season 16 with a new promo on August 14, 2025, and eagle-eyed fans quickly spotted a hilarious easter egg from a past season in the big bang-themed video.
“Once there was nothing… Then a twinkle. A flowery sprinkle, and a ‘bakening’ if you will,” said the voiceover of the clip, which features images of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and hosts Neil Fielding and Alison Hammond.
“From it grew life, intelligent life adorned in knitwear and leopard print. And that little fella there,” said the voice, while showing a familiar little snail made out of bread. “Out of the chaos came hope, resilience, and sponge-based glory. Once there was nothing and then there was The Great British Bake Off.“

Diehard fans of the show, known in America as The Great British Baking Show, immediately recognized the suggestive little character. “The snail… seen it somewhere in an earlier season,” said one fan, while another added, “Julia’s snail! What an honor!!” A third wrote, “Not that snail again!” Indeed, the snail looked just like a snail made of bread by season 5 contestant Julia Chernogorova that went viral for resembling something a little more inappropriate. “Hey, was that a penis snail?” said one blatant follower.
Fans are calling the advertisement “next level brilliant” for the fun easter egg, and for one more interesting aspect: the voice. “Is that Joe Wilkinson narrating? Is that a hint for something?!” one excited fan mentioned. Wilkinson is a fan-favorite English comedian, actor, and screenwriter who is featured on hit British TV shows like LOL: Last One Laughing and Joe and Katherine’s Bargain Holidays, so it’s no wonder fans are excited to hear him on Bake Off.
Is Prue Leith Going to Be on Great British Bake Off Season 16?
Lovers of the baking competition were also thrilled to see Leith teased, when her signature colorful glasses appeared on the sun in the video. Leith recently hinted that her time on the show may be coming to an end.
“I’m doing this year’s Bake Off, and I don’t know if this will be my last,” she told Daily Mail in February. “I’ve got to stop some time, so I might stop next year… I thought I’d just see how I go this year, because I definitely feel a bit older this year than I did last year… I’m very keen to leave ‘Bake Off’ before I’m asked to leave.”
Season 16 of Great British Bake Off will premiere this fall.
