On Monday, May 12, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay announced a new TV show coming to Apple TV+ called Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars. Here’s what you need to know.
Hosted by Jesse Burgess, the co-founder and presenter of food/travel documentary series Topjaw, the eight-episode Knife Edge will explore “the high-stakes world of international fine dining with exclusive Michelin Guide access over the course of the year-long Michelin Guide season,” according to the Apple TV+ press release.
It continues, “Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars follows the fates of elite chefs at some of the world’s most unique and celebrated restaurants to determine if they will win, maintain or lose that precious Star. From attempting to gain their first, tirelessly working to secure their distinction, or striving to gain a second or an elusive third star – each chef faces a deeply personal challenge.”
The Michelin Star is the most prestigious culinary award in the world. It is given to restaurants that feature “the finest ingredients cooked to the highest possible standards.”
Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars was filmed all over the world, from Los Angeles to London to Mexico City to Copenhagen, as Michelin Guide’s team of inspectors “use false identities and phone numbers to dine anonymously.”
The release adds, “After all, the rewards for culinary perfection are great, and only the very best will secure their spot on The Michelin Guide’s exclusive list.”
Ramsay, who is executive producing the series, has been awarded 17 Michelin stars over the years, third only to legendary chefs Alain Ducasse with 21 and the late Joel Robuchon with 31. The elite chefs featured in the new Apple TV+ documentary series will be revealed at a later date.
“As a chef, the pursuit for perfection is everything, and you cannot underestimate the unbelievable drive and ambition, the determination and sacrifice, these chefs are going through day in and day out, chasing the dream of acknowledgment from The Michelin Guide,” said executive producer Gordon Ramsay in a statement.
“There’s no honor in any industry as prestigious and influential as the Michelin Star,” added host Jesse Burgess. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the stories of some of the most exciting restaurants in the world – as they throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at their obsessive quest for the ultimate award.”
The premiere date for Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars has not yet been announced.
