Forget a 3-hour tour on a boat. Tina Louise is going wherever she wants to on foot!
The iconic Gilligan’s Island star, 91, was spotted by the Daily Mail strolling through New York City looking as stylish as ever. Dressed in jeans, a black jacket, and oversized black sunglasses, Louise’s most iconic accessory was, of course, her bright red hair. How could it not be, for an actress who rose to stardom playing a character named Ginger?

Louise starred as Ginger the movie star on the series, which ran from 1964 to 1967, for the entire 98-episode run. She hasn’t appeared on TV since 1999, but Louise has an active life in New York City and still occasionally works the red carpet. Back in 2018, she was spotted out and about at a screening of Holland Taylor‘s Ann at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
Despite her early days on the beloved show, the actress has done significant work outside the realm of acting. She wrote a memoir, Sunday, which chronicled her troubled childhood, and penned two children’s books. She’s also deeply committed to volunteer work. In a recent New York Times article, it was revealed that after working for two decades with a literacy organization, Louise had moved on to serve as a reading tutor at the school where she attended seventh and eighth grades. She now hosts weekly reading sessions there with students.
“I love being in their presence for an hour. It’s better than vitamins,” she told the NYT. “I can’t get back what I went through, but outside of being with my family, doing this is my special thing.”
