When it comes to maximalist prints, styling can get a bit tricky. Patterns easily clash with each other, while vibrant shades can be hard to match. But as Gigi Hadid demonstrates, sometimes it’s best to stick to the basics when styling a statement piece.
On Saturday, the model stepped out in New York City, making the most of the balmy weather with her ‘fit. Her look was centered around a sunny yellow polka-dot top, which not only boasted a fun pattern but also featured an over-the-top ruffled neckline and puffy sleeves, giving her ensemble a retro feel.
Large buttons down the front of the blouse only emphasized the ‘80s aesthetic, giving Hadid no choice but to lean into the look. To round out her ensemble, she styled the playful top with a pair of slouchy mom jeans, cuffed at the bottom to offer a better look at her white tube socks and brown penny loafers.
Doubling-down on the campiness of her top, the model carried a boxy Moschino bag shaped like an orange juice carton, complete with the graphics to match. Elsewhere, she threw on a pair of vintage oval-shaped Gucci sunglasses, as well as a massive pair of gold gemstone earrings. Though she opted for a fresh-faced look, her blonde hair reflected the whimsical vibe of her outfit with curled ends.
Next time you’re stumped on styling, take a cue from Hadid and keep your base simple. That way, your chosen maximalist piece can shine (and, per the model, so can your carefully curated accessories).
