George Clooney Scores Major Career First

George Clooney’s recent stint on Broadway is proving quite fruitful.

The actor, who has been a household name for over 20 years, scored a major first in his career shortly after making his Broadway debut in the play Good Night, And Good Luck.

The play, an adaptation of his 2005 film, which he acted in and directed, has scored the 63-year-old star his very first Tony Award nomination.

Clooney, who underwent a major hair transformation for the role of veteran CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow, is already a Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award winner, with three Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

Tony winners Wendell Pierceand Sarah Paulson announced the nominations Thursday morning on CBS Mornings, revealing Clooney’s nod in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play category alongisde Cole Escola — Oh, Mary!, Jon Michael Hill — Purpose, Daniel Dae Kim — Yellow Face, Harry Lennix — Purpose and Louis McCartney — Stranger Things, The First Shadow.

While Clooney hasn’t publicly reacted to the nomination, he was seen playing softball in Central Park the same day.

Other first-time nominees include Stranger Things star Sadie Sink for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for John Proctor Is the Villainand former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzingerfor Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for Sunset Blvd.

There were also plenty of snubs, with the biggest and most notable featuring Othello‘s Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Good Night, And Good Luck is a limited engagement Broadway show running fromMarch 12, 2025 to June 8, 2025.
