Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Rock Complementary Flowery Looks at 2025 Met Gala

Red carpet regulars Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade are back for the 2025 Met Gala.

The Bring It On star, 52, and former NBA player, 43, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 5, for fashion’s biggest night in their best looks.

Union wore a matte black strapless gown, featuring a long white flowing train that connected at and accentuated her hips. Her hair was styled up with two white floral pieces above her ears that matched the ones on her train. She accessorized with a gorgeous necklace with ruby red accents.

Wade wore a classic formal suit with a bit of a twist. On top, he donned an elaborate teal vest with shiny accents underneath a white blazer. He finished the look with black pants and matching shoes. His fingers were even painted with coordinating green, black and silver.

In October, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is the theme for the gala.

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The gala also has a star-studded host committee: Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, as well as Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.

The couple last appeared at the Met Gala in 2024, with the dress code of “The Garden of Time.” Union opted for a shimmering high-neck Michael Kors dress with a cascading ombré scale pattern. The lilac, green and teal blue color scheme gave major mermaid vibes. Her hair was put back in a bun, accented with a silver star.

Meanwhile, her man kept it cool in a lilac Versace suit with two necklaces on the right lapel. On Instagram, the athlete credited Cartier for its help with the jewelry. Wade complemented the look with a white top and black shoes.

Ahead of the 2024 Met Gala, PEOPLE spoke exclusively with Union about her partnership with Knix. The entrepreneur opened up about her love for fashion’s biggest night and working with designers to try something new every year.

“I love that part,” she said about walking the red carpet. “I think it’s nerve wracking for a lot of people, but when you really f— with a designer and you really love leaning into their creativity and their interpretation of the theme and you are a conduit of somebody else’s artistic freedom and expression that also matches your own, it’s a f—— awesome.”

Union loves to take her time on the carpet to soak up all the creative energy.

“A lot of people want to rush through it, not me,” the actress told PEOPLE. “They literally are like, ‘all right, Gab, move it up the stairs.’ Because I love it. I love it. I absolutely love it.”

In 2023, the couple coordinated in black and red suits to honor the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” themed evening. The Riff Raff actress was red-hot in a leather trench coat and floor-length gown. She kept her hair in braids and twists parted down the middle. Her gold chain necklaces and silver rings by Tiffany & Co. added a sparkle to the look. 

Wade wore a dark contrast to his wife’s outfit. The all-black ensemble was complete with a long blazer, leather button-up top and matching gloves, trousers and Oxford shoes. Like Union, he was outfitted with Tiffany & Co., including a shiny brooch and chain bracelets.

The year prior, the couple paid homage to the theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Union arrived in a silver, plunging Versace gown with an embellished feathered train and a red floral accent around her waist. She pulled her hair back in a low bun and completed the look with Tiffany & Co. earrings, a diamond bracelet and rings.

During Vogue’s livestream of the event, Union discussed the look’s connection to the theme, “Gilded Glamour.”

“When you think about the Gilded Age and Black and Brown people in this country, this country is built off of our backs, our blood, sweat and tears. So we added these red crystals to represent the blood spilled during the accumulation of gross wealth by a few during the Gilded Age, off of the backs of Black people and people of color in this country.”

She then acknowledged the late actress who served as inspiration, “This is inspired by Diahann Carroll, a symbol of opulence and if you will, a gilded glamor.”

The NBA legend accompanied Union in a white blazer with gold accented buttons and matching pants.
