Fred Armisen and Riki Lindhome’s Relationship: All About the “Wednesday” Costars’ Marriage

11 Min Read

Fred Armisen and Riki Lindhome were longtime friends before their relationship turned romantic.

The two comedians — Lindhome, known for her role in musical-comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates, and Armisen, for Saturday Night Live and Portlandia — had known each other for years and ran in the same comedy circles for more than a decade before they started dating on the set of the Netflix show Wednesday in 2021.

The costars became romantically involved three weeks before Lindhome welcomed her son, Keaton, via gestational surrogacy. Though Lindhome was ready to be a single mother, she and Armisen fell in love and jumped into parenthood together.

The couple wed in a private courthouse ceremony in June 2022 (it was Lindhome’s first marriage, and Armisen’s third, after marriages to Sally Timms and Elisabeth Moss).

“It was weird, crazy timing,” Lindhome told PEOPLE in July 2024. “We were friends for so long that it just happened fast. We had one dinner and then it was like, ‘Oh, yeah, let’s see where this goes.’ It was surprising. I would say it was more of a shock to him. He did not see it coming at all.”

Here’s everything to know about Fred Armisen and Riki Lindhome’s relationship.

Armisen and Lindholm met in the late aughts through their respective work in comedy.

In an interview with Cracked in March 2025, Lindholm said that she and Armisen crossed paths by just being in the same musical-comedy circles.

Eventually, they both had shows together on the IFC network in the mid-2010s — Armisen with Portlandia and Lindhome with Garfunkel and Oates.

“We both had shows on IFC at the same time. I’d see him at comedy festivals, IFC events, backstage at Large [a nightclub in Los Angeles] — you end up having a lot of hangout time with other comedians,” Lindhome recalled. “It was through that world and we just stayed friends and had a lot in common with [the] types of things we like to make.”

After more than a decade of friendship, Armisen and Lindholm started seeing each other while shooting the Netflix show Wednesday.

Before filming in Romania in 2021, a mutual friend told Lindhome that Armisen was newly single, having just split from a long-term relationship with Natasha Lyonne. Lindhome was hesitant and didn’t expect anything to happen between her and Armisen, she told PEOPLE in July 2024.

However, when Armisen arrived in Romania a few months after Lindhome to begin filming, they spent a lot of time together on set. Because they had been friends for so long, the development of their romantic relationship happened “fast.”

“I told him that I had feelings for him. I told him I wanted to go on a date,” Lindhome shared. “I didn’t know what would happen. I didn’t even know if he was interested. I just knew I wanted to have dinner with him. I wanted to kiss him. It was mutual.”

After going out to dinner together, they decided to pursue a relationship, Lindhome told PEOPLE.

Lindhome welcomed her son Keaton via surrogate in 2022, only weeks after her romance with Armisen began.

After struggling to conceive, Lindhome made the decision in 2021 to welcome a child via gestational surrogacy. Lindholm told PEOPLE that she was ready to be a single mom, but unexpectedly fell in love with Armisen just before the child was born.

“It’s not the traditional way to land a man: have a baby by yourself and move to Romania,” Lindhom said in July 2024. “I told Fred, ‘If you feel in your gut this is not for you, it doesn’t make you a jerk.’ ”

After returning from filming in Romania, Lindholm welcomed her son, Keaton, on March 1, 2022. When Armisen returned a few weeks later and met Keaton, he knew he wanted to be a part of his life, and the new mom and baby moved into Armisen’s home.

“It just felt like luck and timing,” Lindhome said. “I totally think love is luck and now I think it more than ever … It just felt calm and easy. But I know it’s not a typical relationship story.”

Since welcoming Keaton, Lindhome has often shared snapshots of their lives on social media, from holidays and dressing up for Halloween to playing around the house. Lindhome told PEOPLE that she and Armisen have the “good fortune of having the easiest, calm baby.”

In June 2025, Keaton appeared in the music video for Lindholm’s “35 Pictures” off her comedy album No Worries If Not. In an Instagram post about the project, Lindhome said that Keaton “worked” for five minutes and was “patient” during filming.

Armisen and Lindhome wed in a courthouse ceremony on June 1, 2022, but they didn’t share the news immediately.

The couple tied the knot three months after welcoming Keaton on a Wednesday afternoon to honor their time together on the set of Wednesday. Lindholm told PEOPLE in July 2024 that the progression to marriage was natural. There was no proposal, and the couple picked out their rings together.

The courthouse ceremony was only three minutes long, with Lindhome wearing a white dress she bought at a mall, while Armisen donned a suit. After the nuptials — that only Keaton and one friend were present to witness — they went out for ice cream.

“I didn’t even tell my mom,” Lindhome said. “We didn’t want to get pressured into having a wedding.”

Armisen and Lindhome have had long careers in comedy, and they support each other’s work.

While Lindhome is best known for being part of the musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates, in the spring of 2025, she released her first solo comedy album, No Worries If Not, and went on tour with the companion comedy tour, Dead Inside. She told Cracked in March 2025 that Armisen encouraged her to get back on stage and pursue the project.

While at a barbecue with friends, the band Wolves of Glendale was playing, and Lindhome said she told Armisen that if she could do a show opening for them, it would get her back” into the headspace to write and perform.

“Ten minutes later, the guy from Wolves of Glendale walks over — he goes, ‘Are you doing songs? You should open for us,’ ” Lindhome told Cracked. “My husband [says to me], ‘Well, now you have to.’ ”

Lindhome has also said that Armisen is a “solo worker” and doesn’t require her input for his comedy, but sometimes she does bounce ideas off of him. He even appeared playing the saxophone in her music video for “Middle Age Love” off No Worries If Not.

More importantly, she says Armisen helps lift her spirits. “He’s really good at confidence-boosting because he’s not rattled the way I am … He doesn’t catastrophize the way I do,” she told Cracked.

In turn, Lindhome also supports Armisen’s career, attending the SNL 50th anniversary event with him in February 2025, and attending a screening of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in September 2024, at which Armisen paid tribute to the late Paul Reubens, per Deadline.

Armisen and Lindhome are often at each other’s sides at industry parties, premieres and screenings.

In February 2025, Lindhome was Armisen’s plus-one to the SNL50: The Anniversary Special filming and Homecoming Concert. In March that year, they also attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party together.

Apart from festivals hosted by Netflix, Armisen and Lindhome have gone to awards shows and gala events.

In 2023, they even performed on stage together in The Nightmare Before Christmas in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, with Lindhome as Shock and Armisen as Oogie, per the Los Angeles Times.
