Reacher star Alan Ritchson had dismissed his manager, and former Survivor contestant, Dan Spilo after at least one incident on the set of his upcoming action thriller Runner, on which Spilo was also a producer.
As Deadline reports, multiple sources “cited inappropriate behavior that included bullying and inappropriate behavior that included yelling at crew. His dismissal on the film came after an HR investigation, and the star parted ways with the manager at the same time. While Spilo has declined to comment, sources close to him allege a “heated confrontation” on set, and that, following an awkward aftermath from the exchange, he chose to remove himself from the situation.

Spilo appeared on the 39th season of the hit CBS reality series, Island of the Idols, in 2019. While participating on the show, he was embroiled in one of the biggest controversies in the show’s history, after a contestant accused him of inappropriately touching her. After being given a formal warning by production, he was removed from the game on Day 36 after another alleged touching incident. To date, Spilo is the only contestant to be outright ejected from the American version.

Following Spilo’s removal from the game, as well as the ensuing fallout, Survivor announced new policies around harassment starting in Season 41. A statement at the time read, “The production will add another on-site professional to provide a confidential means of reporting any concerns, so that the production can address them promptly apart from the game. The full range of reporting processes will be communicated clearly to the players during pre-production orientation. The new executive will add to a support system that already makes mental health providers available to players on location and after they leave the island.”
Sources close to production say that Spilo’s controversy on Survivor was used as an example of how his behavior on the set of Runner was not an isolated incident. Reacher, which stars Ritchson and Owen Wilson, is currently in its final couple of weeks of shooting.
