NEED TO KNOW

  • Dwight Howard’s wife has filed for divorce after just six months of marriage, according to court documents

  • A mutual restraining order has also been filed

  • The divorce filing said the relationship was “irretrievably broken” with “no prospects for reconciliation”

Former NBA star Dwight Howard and his wife Amber Rose Howard are divorcing after just six months.

According to court records obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE, Amber, who also goes by the name Amy Luciani for her rap career, filed for divorce from Howard, 39, in a Georgia courthouse on Tuesday, July 1, citing that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no prospects for reconciliation.”

One day later, a mutual restraining order, which the parties initially entered into on January 2, 2025, was also filed in court.

Amber is asking for all marital assets and property to be divided equally between her and the NBA champion, who opened up about the “heartless” killing of his beloved dog in a hit-and-run just days before the filing.

She also requested alimony from the court, per the documents.

The former couple tied the knot on Jan. 11, 2025.

On Tuesday, July 8, Howard was seen vacationing in Jamaica in a post on Instagram. Howard, who currently plays for Ice Cube’s Big3 League on the team L.A. Riot, is on a bye week before games pick up again on July 13.

In June, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant made headlines for a scuffle he got into with fellow former NBA star Lance Stephenson. Howard and Stephenson, 34, were both ejected from the season opener after their scuffle spilled into the crowd at the Allstate Arena.

Two weeks later, Howard mourned the death of his beloved dog, describing his late pup as his “protector” and his “baby” in a thoughtful caption on Instagram.

“I’m devastated because you were the dog that never left my side, the dog that stuck to my hip at all times, and the one time you wander off without me being there, someone takes you away from me,” the father of five wrote. “Who could be so heartless to do this to such an innocent girl with no remorse?”

Howard won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020. Widely known as an elite defender, Howard took his talents to Taiwan in 2022 through May 2023. In addition to competing on DWTS, he was also a contestant on Fox’s grueling competition series, Special Forces, in 2023.
