Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Matthew Broderick was reportedly really nervous to film one of the iconic scenes from the 80’s classic.
In an interview with Entertainment Weeklyon July 31, Choreographer Kenny Ortega recalled Broderick was a “nervous wreck” before filming the parade scene, where Bueller lip-synced and danced to “Twist and Shout” on a float.
“The first day I laid eyes on [Matthew Broderick] was in a rehearsal,” Orgeta said and revealed the actor told him “”I’ve never danced before.’ “
“‘Don’t worry about it. We’re gonna figure this out together,'” he recalled telling Broderick while working on the scene. “And he was the most charming, wonderful, sweet man to work with.”
Ortega also reflected on the “magical day” filming the classic scene and shared that they “moved the float into a real parade” and were able to capture the scene on “one take.”

Broderick’s costar Mia Sara — who played Ferris’ girlfriend Sloane — previously told PEOPLE Magazine back in June that her favorite memory from filming Ferris Bueller was the parade scene.
“That was so crazy [and] so much fun,” she said. “We would do the dance and then we’d get in a van and they’d drive us blocks away, and the camera would go, and then we’d do the dance again and wait for Matthew to pass. So that was a great moment.”
