Trouble brews once again in Shadyside in the trailer for “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” Netflix’s newest addition to the “Fear Street” franchise.

The film is adapted from author R.L. Stine’s 1992 novel “The Prom Queen.” Netflix previously released a trilogy of “Fear Street” films, directed by Leigh Janiak, in 2021: “Fear Street Part One: 1994,” “Fear Street Part Two: 1978” and “Fear Street Part Three: 1666.”

In “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” an ’80s dance turns bloody. According to the official logline, “prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.”

Matt Palmer (“Calibre”) directed “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” which he co-wrote with Donald Mcleary. The cast includes India Fowler (“The Nevers”), Suzanna Son (“Red Rocket”), Fina Strazza (“Above the Shadows”), Ariana Greenblatt (“Barbie”), Chris Klein (“Sweet Magnolias”), David Iacono (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”), Ella Rubin (“The Idea of You”), Lili Taylor (“Outer Range”) and Katherine Waterston (“Perry Mason”).

Producers include Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kori Adelson via Chernin Entertainment, while executive producers are Yvonne Bernard, Jane Stine and Joan Waricha.

Variety included the “Fear Street” trilogy in its “Best Horror Movies of 2021” ranking, describing that “there is a surprising amount of blood and tragedy in these films, dulling the spooky fun at times to appropriately grieve dead teenagers.”

“Fear Street: Prom Queen” premieres on Netflix May 23. Watch the official trailer below.
