At 70, Denzel Washington is looking toward the future—and that future may no longer include acting.
While promoting his latest film, Highest 2 Lowest, in an interview with Revolt, the legendary talent was asked a question that caused him to fall into deep introspection: “What does your purpose look like, right now?”
The genuine inquisition prompted a poignant response.
“It looks like the face of God. It looks like the fifth chapter this morning from the book of Revelations,” he answered, referring to the Bible. “Just growing—in faith, in strength, and understanding, simplicity. Cutting the fat; getting rid of stuff—a lot of stuff.”

Been talking about retirement… I don’t know if that’s where God has been leading me, but it feels like he’s been telling me, ‘I got you where I want you.’”
Washington has become a legend in the film industry since his first on-screen role in 1977, starring in over 50 projects spanning five decades, and cementing himself as a bonafide household name.
“In the meantime, taking the gift that I’ve been given and finding the good in it, and finding the God in it,” he added in his revelatory sentiment.
