Condolences and apologies are rolling in for Kelly Clarkson after her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died following a silent battle with cancer.
The talent manager’s family announced his death on Thursday, August 7, less than one day after Kelly, 43, postponed the remaining shows of her Studio Session concerts in Las Vegas.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” the American Idol winner’s statement read. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

Before Brandon’s family announced his passing, not all fans were accepting of Kelly’s decision to step away from her shows. However, the Grammy-winning artist’s true fans defended her against the trolls.
“Some of these comments are insane and lack empathy. That man has passed away it was just reported,” one person wrote in the comments section of the post. “He was her children’s father, damn have at least a little compassion.”
“I am so sorry for this loss. You are a good, strong woman and I admire how you have handled all of this,” a second fan wrote. “My condolences to Brandon’s family, especially his children. So very sad.”
A rep for Brandon’s family shared a statement confirming his death.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the announcement read, revealing that “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.”
“He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” the statement concluded. “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Kelly and Brandon tied the knot on October 20, 2013, in Tennessee. The pair started their family when they welcomed daughter River Rose Blackstock on June 12, 2014. Their brood expanded after Kelly gave birth to son Remington “Remy” Alexander Blackstock on April 12, 2016.
The Voice coach and Brandon separated in June 2020 and finalized their divorce in March 2022.
