There’s no question that Friends is one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time…and there’s no question that the episode where Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) sings “Smelly Cat” is one of the most unforgettable moments from the series.
Of course, Phoebe wasn’t the only character who sang “Smelly Cat” — her former writing partner, Leslie (played by Elizabeth EG Daily) also famously belted out the silly tune, and it seems fans still ask her about it all the time.
In a recent video lip sync video shared on TikTok, Daily, 63, wore a short black t-shirt featuring Mojo Jojo from Teen Titans Go! as she mouthed the words to the popular audio clip, “Everybody told me that I sound like CG5, probably because I am CG5.”
“Everybody says that I look like the girl who sang ‘Smelly Cat’ on Friends,” read the text overlay.
“Me + Phoebe Buffay = Smelly Cat,” she captioned the clip, adding, “Who remembers this episode?!?”
Not only did commenters remember the episode, they couldn’t get over how little Daily — who’s also known for her incredibly prolific career as a voice actress — has changed in the years since it first aired.
“How do you look so young,” one person wanted to know.
“God you’re so beautiful,” gushed another fan.
“Every time I watch that episode I’m pointing at the telly going ‘that’s Tommy!!” somebody added, referencing the Tommy Pickles character from Rugrats (voiced by Daily).
“I literally did a report on you for my voiceover class last week. You are the greatest,” raved another TikTok user, with someone else agreeing, “EG is the true goat…. fight me on it… I dare you.”
In another TikTok video last year, Daily opened up about how she booked the role of Phoebe’s musical rival, revealing that she’d “just had a baby” at the time.
“I was home, I had just had a baby, I got a call from my agent that said ‘You gotta run over and do this audition for Friends at the studio,” she recalled, adding that she went to the audition with “with a baby in one hand in the bassinet and a guitar case in the other hand” and “the next day I was on set with all the Friends. It was pretty magical!”
