Newly-engagedZac Brown is trading in a cold beer in his hand for a joint he’s about to hit.
The “Chicken Fried” singer — and his eponymous Zac Brown Band — just teamed up with Snoop Dogg for their newest track, “Let It Run.”
While country music has long been steeped in the tradition of sharing a beer, ZBB and Snoop are all about passing the blunt on this one — just as long as their rotation features friends who have a smoker’s etiquette.
“Just let it run, let it run / If it’s burning kinda funny, we can roll another one,” Brown sings on the chorus of the summer party anthem, which dropped on Thursday, July 31. “It ain’t like we’re down to crumbs, we got more where that came from / Don’t be spittin’ on my blunt, just let that mothef***er run.”
As Brown told Us Weekly, “When we finished the first verse and that chorus hit, I just knew it needed a different kind of flavor, something real and iconic that would throw people a little sideways in the best way.”
And he wasn’t just talking about marijuana.
“Snoop was that missing piece,” the “Toes” artist said, calling the rapper “a legend” who “brings a whole different kind of soul and energy to anything he touches.”
Snoop infused the track with his own riff on the chorus, rapping on his verse: “Wet mouth, crumb snatchin’ son of a b***h (B***h) / What makes you think I wanna hit a blunt full of spit?” the “Gin and Juice” rapper rhymes on the record. “You full of s***t, I’m movin’ solo, smokin’ dolo / Back-to-back sacks with Zac, let ’em know, though.”
As for Brown’s take on weed in the country scene — he told the outlet that his dream blunt rotation includes marijuana enthusiast and country icon Willie Nelson— the “Free” artist acknowledged that while “there’s still plenty of whiskey out there … passing a joint’s become more common, especially off stage,” he told Us Weekly. “It’s about connection, unwinding, getting into a creative headspace.”
