Outlander fans, get ready to travel back even further in time. The highly anticipated prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which premieres with two episodes on Friday, Aug. 8 on STARZ, dives into the love stories that came before Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) ever set fire to TV screens – at least timeline-wise. This new romantic drama introduces viewers to the parents of the beloved couple, offering not one but two sweeping romances set decades before the original series.

The series follows the passionate pairing of Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), as well as Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine). From the misty Highlands of 18th-century Scotland to the battlefields of 20th-century Europe, Blood of My Blood continues the franchise’s signature mix of history, romance and time-bending drama.

Aside from Brian Fraser, briefly played as an older man by Andrew Whipp in Seasons 1 and 7, the leads are all new additions to the Outlander universe. But don’t worry; this prequel, set just one generation before Jamie and Claire’s story, still includes younger versions of several familiar characters. Even more fun? Two of the new actors are actually the real-life sons of their adult Outlander counterparts.

Brian Fraser

Brian Fraser, Jamie’s father, is played by Andrew Whipp in Outlander and Jamie Roy in Blood of My Blood.

Colum MacKenzie

Colum MacKenzie, brother of Dougal and Jamie’s maternal uncle, is played by Séamus McLean Ross in Blood of My Blood and Gary Lewis in Outlander.

Dougal MacKenzie

Dougal MacKenzie, brother of Colum and Jamie’s other maternal uncle, is played by Sam Retford in Blood of My Blood and Graham McTavish in Outlander.

Jocasta MacKenzie

Jocasta MacKenzie, Jamie’s maternal aunt, is played by Sadhbh Malin in Blood of My Blood and Maria Doyle Kennedy in Outlander.

Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Jamie’s godfather and trusted friend, is played by Duncan Lacroix in Outlander and Rory Alexander in Blood of My Blood. Murtagh is also the second cousin of Jamie’s father, Brian.

Glenna Fitzgibbons (Mrs. Fitz)

Glenna FitzGibbons (aka Mrs. Fitz) is the aunt of Murtagh. She is played by Annette Badland in Outlander and Sally Messham in Blood of My Blood.

Simon Fraser

Simon Fraser, Jamie’s father, is played by Clive Russell in Outlander and Tony Curran in Blood of My Blood.

Ned Gowan

Ned Gowan, the legal advisor to Clan MacKenzie, is played by Bill Paterson in Outlander and Conor MacNeill in Blood of My Blood.

Is there a connection between Grant O’Rourke and Louis O’Rourke?

Rupert MacKenzie (cousin to Colum and Dougal) is portrayed by Grant O’Rourke in Outlander and by Louis O’Rourke in Blood of My Blood. His loyal friend Angus Mhor, originally played by Stephen Walters, is now brought to life by Marlow Walters. And yes, those shared last names are not a coincidence.
