Camryn Magness, a vibrant singer-songwriter who gained significant recognition opening for pop phenoms One Direction and Cody Simpson, has died at the age of 26. The musician was fatally struck while riding an electric scooter on December 5, a loss that cuts short a career that placed her on some of the world’s biggest stages before she had even left her teen years.

The music world is mourning the tragic loss of Camryn Magness, a talented musician whose career was marked by major tours with some of the biggest names in pop music. Magness died on December 5 at the age of 26. Her death was the result of a fatal accident involving an electric scooter.

The news was confirmed in a heartbreaking announcement on her official Facebook page on December 9, leaving fans and collaborators to reflect on a life filled with music and promise, tragically cut short.

A Heartbreaking Announcement

The official statement shared with her followers painted a picture of a vibrant and adventurous spirit. “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, coy, and bright spirit touched so many,” the announcement began.

The post, which accompanied a video of her scuba diving, continued with a poignant tribute. “Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness. In the quiet between waves, her memory will surface—bright, bold, unforgotten. Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl. You are deeply loved and forever cherished.”

A Career Forged on the World’s Biggest Stages

Magness’s journey in music began at the young age of 8. In a 2012 interview, she detailed how she recorded a demo that found its way to her future manager, setting her on a professional path early in life, a detail confirmed by Teen Vogue. The following year, her collaboration “Wait and See” with the band Blessed by a Broken Heart was featured in the 2011 film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.

Like many artists of her generation, Magness leveraged YouTube to build an audience, sharing videos of her performances. This digital presence quickly paid off, catching the attention of rising stars Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson. In 2010, she joined them as the opening act for their Waiting 4U Tour, her first major taste of life on the road.

Magness began touring with major artists as a teenager, building a dedicated fanbase along the way.

However, her biggest break came in 2012 when she was tapped to join One Direction on their first headlining tour, the Up All Night Tour. This opportunity put her in front of massive, sold-out arenas at the height of the band’s global fame. The experience was transformative. “Going into the tour, I was an unknown artist. It’s a great feeling to be walking around and someone coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey, you did so well!'” she recalled. The band was so impressed that they invited her back for their 2013 Take Me Home Tour.

She described the immense opportunity of opening for One Direction as “amazing” in an interview with CBS News. “At the end of it all, it went amazing and I made a lot of new fans and friends,” she stated, reflecting on the profound impact the tour had on her career.

Her touring career continued as she opened for another pop powerhouse, Fifth Harmony, on their 7/27 Tour in 2016. Magness also released her own music over the years, including singles like “Now or Never,” “Lovesick,” and “Machines,” and her 2021 EP, Love Maps.

A Life of “Fearless Energy”

Beyond the stage, Magness was remembered for her profound kindness and creativity. “A gifted performer, Camryn’s voice and music were extensions of her soul,” reads her official obituary. “Whether she was on a stage, at a family gathering, or sharing a song with someone who needed it, Camryn’s music was a reflection of her heart, her courage, and her endless creativity.”

Magness was engaged to her fiancé, Christian Name, described as “the love of her life.” Her obituary noted that “together they were building dreams for a future filled with joy, partnership, and possibility.” She is survived by her parents, Sarah and Gary, her siblings Chelsea and Cable, and her fiancé.

The sudden passing of Camryn Magness is a devastating blow, silencing a voice that had graced global stages and was poised for so much more. For the millions of fans who first saw her as a teenager sharing the stage with their idols, she will be remembered as a bright, promising talent whose journey ended far too soon.
