In a shocking incident, a large Canada goose smashed through an English woman’s front door, sending her into a panic as she initially mistook the bird for a potential thief. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the woman’s home in Leicestershire, England.
An “enormous” Canada goose busted through an English woman’s front door, sending her into panic when she initially mistook the bewildered bird for a would-be thief. Lynne Sewell and a friend were watching TV Wednesday night when a thunderous bang startled her — and she soon discovered the fowl intruder wedged in the glass of the door to her Leicestershire home, the BBC reported.
“My friend went out first because I was scared — and he shouted ‘there’s a bird with its head through the glass,’” Sewell said. “I was scared by the loud bang to start with, and it was enormous. I thought it was probably someone trying to kick the door or something.”
The stunned friends called police and animal rescue, but with no one available that late, they made sure to keep the goose comfortable with a blanket and food until morning, hoping it would survive the night. The Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth Harcourt arrived the next morning to scoop up the feathered visitor, which only suffered a few cuts and is expected to return to the wild, the BBC reported.
Rescuer Amy Blower believes the fatigued bird may have tired itself out in flight and misjudged its landing. “It’s very usual to be in the middle of a housing estate and flying that late at night,” Blower said. The goose will be released back into the wild after being treated with pain medication and antibiotics.
Sewell has since boarded up her front door and arranged for it to be repaired, but is relieved the befuddled bird will make a full recovery.
