  • Emma Stone and husband Dave McCary stepped out together at the Venice International Film Festival on Thursday, Aug. 28

  • Stone, who has been married to the filmmaker since 2020, is premiering her new movie Bugonia

  • Bugonia is in select theaters Oct. 24, then wide Oct. 31

Emma Stone and husband Dave McCary are on a very glamorous date night.

The Oscar winner, 36, appeared on the red carpet with her husband McCary, 40, at the Venice International Film Festival on Thursday, Aug. 28 as she premieres her new movie Bugonia.

Stone, who wore a custom Louis Vuitton gown and Roger Vivier heels, and McCary married in 2020 and they share daughter Louise Jean, 4.

She stars in Bugonia alongside Alicia Silverstone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias and more. The movie marks Stone’s fourth film with director Yorgos Lanthimos, whom she previously worked with in 2018’s The Favourite, 2023’s Poor Things, 2024’s Kinds of Kindness and multiple short films.

Stone worked on Poor Things and Bugonia as a producer in addition to her leading roles; the new movie, based on Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 South Korean comedy Save the Green Planet!, follows “two conspiracy-obsessed young men [who] kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth,” according to a synopsis.

Stone and McCary first met when she hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2016. McCary was working on the sketch series as a writer and director at the time. A source close to the couple confirmed they were dating in October 2017, and they announced that they were engaged in December 2019.

Stone and McCary founded a production company titled Fruit Tree in 2020. On top of parenting daughter Louise, the couple have co-produced a number of films and shows in recent years, including 2023’s Problemista and 2024 movies like I Saw the TV Glow and A Real Pain, as well as Stone’s series The Curse.

Stone does not often speak about her private life with McCary and their daughter, but the actress made reference to her personal life during Bugonia‘s press conference in Venice on Aug. 28 when she spoke about the disparate parts of her life as a movie star and in her personal time.

“Because there’s me, and then there’s ‘me,’ here,” she said, while answering a question regarding how she manages fame. “I separate the two in my mind a little bit, which I maybe need to do less, but I think as a coping mechanism. There’s the person who comes here and then there’s the person I am with all my friends and family. They’re the same person, but it’s what I do to keep myself sane, I guess.”

Bugonia is in select theaters Oct. 24, then wide on Oct. 31.
