Spinal Tap, the fictional and nonetheless impactful heavy metal band featured in the 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” is back after a 41-year absence, once again extolling the unknowable mysteries of Stonehenge. And this time, with a proper monument.
Alongside friend Elton John – the film also features cameos from Paul McCartney, Questlove and Lars Ulrich, among others – the band revisits and rerecords the song “Stonehenge” from the original film and corrects a longstanding live-production error, this time featuring an 18-foot-tall recreation of a portion of Stonehenge instead of the original’s 18-inch-tall version.

The film, also from fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi (Rob Reiner), follows the original band members David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) as they are forced to reunite for one last gig, contemplating mortality along the way.
“Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” both the film and album, are slated for release on Sept. 12 alongside a limited theatrical run of the original This Is Spinal Tap.
