Ellie Kemper is considering where her The Office character Erin Hannon might be now
-
Speaking to PEOPLE about her partnership with Kohl’s, the actress gave her take on Erin’s life today, and whether or not she’s back with on-again, off-again love interest Andy Bernard

The sweet relationship between Ellie Kemper’s Erin and Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard was at the heart of The Office when the pair dated on and off for four-plus seasons, but were they meant to be?
According to Kemper, who played Erin Hannon on The Office beginning in 2009’s season 5 … maybe.
“I don’t know that they’re the perfect pair, but they would make it work,” Kemper, 45, told PEOPLE exclusively on May 7 during the Evening with Ellie! Dinner with Kohl’s Mom Ellie Kemper in N.Y.C. “Look, in my tone, you can tell that I sound skeptical of their success as a couple,” she added, “so maybe I don’t. I feel like Erin is on — not to say that Andy was a bad pick — but she’s on to better and brighter.”
To that end, she thinks Erin, who replaced Jenna Fischer’s newly promoted Pam Beesly as office secretary, would be far gone from Dunder Mifflin today.

“I think she’s a hard worker, but I also think she has values, or balance,” Kemper shared. “That’s what she values, balance. So I feel like she probably has moved on to a more senior position. I’m not sure whether it’s at a paper company or in a different field, but I also think she has a family and friends and balances it all. That’s my wish for her.”
Looking back, Kemper said there are so many moments from filming the NBC hit that stand out, but her most memorable storyline for Erin was the season 6 episode “Secretary’s Day,” written by costar Mindy Kaling and directed by costar Steve Carell.
“So you knew it was going to be a phenomenal episode, and I loved that because it was all about exploring the relationship between Erin and Michael Scott,” she added of Carell’s bumbling, beloved boss character. “And I thought that not only did I love it — I was in every scene — but it was also just really powerful for Erin to go through this and to find some comfort in guidance in Michael Scott.”
Which, she added, “I’m not sure you want to take guidance from him! But I thought it was very sweet.”

Earlier this year, Kemper opened up about how the cast has stayed close since the series wrapped in 2013.
“I talk to Jenna, Angela [Kinsey], Mindy and Kate Flannery pretty regularly, and it’s just nice,” she said. “My gosh, what a blessing to be able to have those friendships.”
Plus, she added, “There’s an Office text thread that everybody’s on. There are emails. Everybody’s very much connected still,” she shared. “I’d say Rainn Wilson sends some pretty funny messages on that thread.”
