Seeing Elle and Dakota Fanning’s smiley, stylish girls’ night just gave me the boost of
serotonin I needed this morning. Last night, the Hollywood sisters stepped out for a pasta dinner at the celebrity-loved Santa Monica, California, hotspot Giorgio Baldi. The Fannings were glowing and giggly in their minimalist, chic ensembles that displayed two different takes on effortless girls’ night dressing for the warm months.
Elle was lovely in a black slip dress with transparent straps and romantic embroidery along the bodice and at scalloped hem. She kept her look monochrome with pointy kitten heels—each with a top strap—and a rectangular clutch. She added a pop of color to her ensemble via a glossy red lip.
Dakota, meanwhile, went for a loose summer suit styled with thong sandals—the uniform all the cool girls are wearing this season. It was composed of a white silk shirt worn open over a matching silky V-neck top and paired with relaxed black pants; her black leather thong sandals had small wedge heels. Like her sister, the Watchers star accessorized with a boxy black handbag.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last year, Elle spoke about her and Dakota’s differing styles. “I think Dakota’s very classic. I’m classic too, but with a twist,” the star of The Great said. “She’s a little bit more laid-back. There have been times when she’s looked at me and she’s like, ‘Okay, you’re going to wear that?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ And I think she loves me for that, but I kind of make a bolder choice, whereas she just wants to look beautiful and clean and chic. I get to be the crazy one. I think that younger-older sister dynamic is classic.”
