As someone who gravitates toward minimalist dressing, the bag charm trend has been a hard one for me to grasp. The idea of covering my favorite sleek designer bag with loud, colorful, dangly charms that will probably clink and clatter as I walk simply did not appeal to me—that is until today, when I saw Dua Lipa’s charmed-up travel bag.
In the midst of her Radical Optimism Tour, the “Houdini” singer was spotted departing from the Melbourne, Australia, airport today while in a low-key look that nodded to her latest brand partnership.
For her base, she wore a pink-and-black striped shirt that she tucked into loose, wide-leg blue jeans with frayed hems. She layered on a black leather coat for warmth, and coordinated her footwear, opting for black leather Maison Margiela Tabi ballerina flats, each adorned with a little bow. The pop superstar also added a vintage touch to the look via some thick black eyeglasses from Gucci.
But the pièce de résistance of the ensemble was, of course, Lipa’s Chanel 25 bag, of which she is the new face. The slouchy black leather bag is embossed in a grid-like pattern, and has an adjustable closure feature thanks to the French fashion house’s signature chain strap in gold. Left dangling at the center of the chain, the CC logo, also in gold, takes the spotlight. The luxury bag also has deep pockets on the sides, making it the perfect travel companion.
Lipa left her new Chanel staple bare, but carried with it the leather travel tote that has become her airport go-to: a super-stuffed black Hermès Birkin. This one, Lipa accessorized with some fluffy stuffed animal toys and a red patterned silk scarf—proving that childish fun and timeless glamour can mix just fine.
Something about the luxury and the messiness of the look got to me, and is seriously making me reconsider adding some funny trinkets to my bags, even if just to make dreary travel days more bearable.
