Dropbox Live Photos

Dropbox has updated its iPhone and iPad app with a feature that you might have suspected was added a very long time ago, but somehow never was. Live Photos support is finally available for Dropbox users, built right into the

Live Photos now supported in latest Dropbox app update

The latest Dropbox app update on iOS, version 416.2, comes with the following release notes:

  1. You can now view and upload Live Photos in the app.
  2. We introduced more PDF editing functionality, like drawing and highlighting.

I had to do a quick double-take at that first line.

Live Photos, the iPhone feature that first launched 10 years ago with the iPhone 6s, now gains full support inside the Dropbox app.

Similar to the Live Photos support baked into Apple’s own Photos app, Dropbox lets you long-press a Live Photo to see its motion.

The app also lets you make some modifications to the Live Photo.

Per a new Dropbox support document:

  • To save your Live photo as a still image, tap Live on under “Image preferences” and select Still image. To change it back, tap Live off and select Live photo.
  • If your Live Photo’s file type is HEIC, you can convert it to JPG by tapping Save as JPG under “Image preferences.”

If you’re a heavy Dropbox user, I suppose Live Photos support is a “better late than never” type feature.

Why now? We may never know, but we can at least be thankful it’s finally here.

Have you been missing Live Photos support in Dropbox? Do you expect to use the feature now that it’s available? Let us know in the comments.
