Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The stars of The Paper are sharing the inside scoop on what The Office fans can expect from their spinoff.

During NBCUniversal’s Upfront on Monday morning, Oscar Nuñez, Domhnall Gleeson, and Sabrina Impacciatore screened a short clip from the series inside Radio City Music Hall before teasing a bit of what’s in store for their characters.

The mockumentary, which is created by Office showrunner Greg Daniels and Nathan For You‘s Michael Koman, sees the camera crew who memorialized the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company turn their attention to a failing Midwestern newspaper called The Truth Teller. It’s there that the crew run into Oscar (Nuñez), who is working at the publication alongside Gleeson and Impacciatore.

“I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,” Nuñez told the audience. “Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio — which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard.”

He continued, “Greg and Michael have invited us into the familiar world of the workplace, or should we say the office place? It’s a comedy, and it’s called The Paper.”

Nuñez then passed the baton over to Gleeson, who revealed that — despite what his hair color may suggest — he’s playing an entirely new character in the forthcoming comedy.

“Fans of The Office will be delighted to Oscar back at work, and some older fans will look at me and be glad that Meredith is also coming back,” Gleeson teased, referencing Kate Flannery’s character from the original series. “That’s a red hair joke.”

Instead, the Ex Machina actor said that viewers would soon be getting to know the journalists that make up The Truth Teller‘s newsroom.

“We are three members of a wonderful ensemble cast of underdog characters that are banding together to keep journalism alive,” Gleeson said before Impacciatore burst out laughing. “She keeps doing that. My character has the unwavering optimistic belief that he can turn The Truth Teller to the glory of its heyday… And, if you’re wondering, I will not be using this Irish accent.”

White Lotus‘ Impacciatore then confirmed that the series will begin streaming this September on Peacock. “We can do it!” Nuñez cheered. “We can do it, you guys!”

Joining Gleeson, Nuñez, and Impacciatore on their quest to save print journalism are their costars Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young and Tim Key. And, while their involvement in the project hasn’t been officially confirmed, fellow Office alum Angela Kinsey confirmed last month that she previously visited the show’s set with costar Jenna Fischer.

“Greg had invited us, and we showed up, and not only was Oscar there, but our crew, so many of these wonderful people,” She recalled on the pair’s Office Ladies rewatch podcast. “‘Cause the crew was our extended family, and we’re still really close with them, and that was really moving to see.”

In addition to their role as creators, Daniels and Koman also serve as writers and executive producers on the project alongside Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant — who created the U.K. version of The Office and served as executive producers on its U.S. adaptation — Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and production studio Banijay Americas.
