Doja Cat is back at the Met Gala tonight for her third appearance at the annual event. Known for her bold, high-concept red carpet moments, the rapper consistently delivers unforgettable looks on the steps of the museum—and this year is no different.
Doja stepped onto the blue carpet in an abstract bodysuit by Marc Jacobs. The piece featured a pinstripe pattern to honor the theme of the night, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” but it also played with form with a leopard print bustier panel. Worn with tights, platform boots, David Webb jewelry, and a mullet-inspired hairstyle, Doja’s fit looked straight out of the ’80s. She told red carpet hosts Teyana Taylor and Ego Nwodim that she was inspired by the decade for her look tonight.
Doja added that she wanted to feel like a “gangster” or “a madam” on the red carpet, and Jacobs delivered. “All of the exaggerated shapes, I feel like he’s the master of, and I’m so, so, so, happy for that,” she said of the designer.
Jacobs revealed that the designing process was collaborative; Doja would send him mood boards inspired by her new album. Yes, it’s true: Doja Cat has more music on the way. “I can’t wait,” she said. Without teasing too much, she hinted that one of her new songs, “Jealous Type,” soundtracks her new Marc Jacobs campaign.
Her past Met Gala looks have set a high bar. Last year, Doja turned heads in a wet-looking transparent gown by Vetements, paired with mascara tears streaming down her face—an intentionally theatrical touch that followed her towel-clad departure from the Mark Hotel earlier in the evening. Her unique ability to blend performance art with fashion has made her one of the most anticipated stars to watch on any red carpet.
In 2023, Doja fully committed to the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme by transforming into Lagerfeld’s iconic cat, Choupette. She wore a hooded Oscar de la Renta gown paired with a feline prosthetic face, embracing the dress code in an utterly memorable and playful way.
Earlier that year, Doja made headlines at couture week in Paris when she sat front row at Schiaparelli’s show, wearing red body paint adorned with 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals. The stunning look showcased her fearless approach to fashion and cemented her status as one of the most boundary-pushing stars in the industry.
This year, Doja returns to the Met Gala amid growing anticipation surrounding her next project. Over the past few months, she’s teased new music, including a snippet of the track “Jealous Type,” and shared what seemed to be a 16-song tracklist for an album titled Vie. However, no official release date or confirmation has been given, leaving fans eagerly awaiting what’s next.
In the meantime, Doja has stayed in the spotlight with several high-profile collaborations, including the track “Born Again” with Blackpink’s Lisa and Raye. She also delivered a cinematic performance at the Oscars, where she joined her collaborators onstage to perform James Bond-inspired tracks.
Outside of music and fashion, Doja has hinted at ambitions that reach beyond the stage. In a 2022 interview with ELLE, she revealed, “I’d love to act. I’d love to be in movies. That’s a massive want for me.”
