DOJ Turns Over Epstein Documents To House Oversight

The House Oversight Committee confirmed Friday that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has begun turning over documents relating to Jeffrey Epstein.

“The House Oversight Committee has received the Department of Justice’s first production of Epstein records pursuant to Chairman James Comer’s subpoena,” according to a House Oversight Committee spokesperson.

“The production contains thousands of pages of documents. The Trump DOJ is providing records at a far quicker pace than anything the Biden DOJ ever provided. In fact, former Attorney General Garland obstructed Chairman Comer’s subpoena for the audio of Special Counsel Hur’s interview with President Biden to hide his cognitive decline.” (RELATED: What In The World Is Going On With Ghislaine Maxwell?)

The committee plans to release the records once they’ve been carefully reviewed to remove any information that could identify victims or include child sexual abuse material.

The committee also intend to coordinate with the DOJ to make sure the release doesn’t interfere with active investigations or criminal cases.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer said Monday the Justice Department is cooperating with the committee’s subpoena for Epstein files, describing the DOJ as compiling documents in a “good-faith effort.”

Comer made the remarks ahead of former Attorney General William Barr’s closed-door deposition on Tuesday, telling reporters the committee expected to receive the records by Friday.

During his testimony Monday, Barr told lawmakers he never saw any evidence that President Donald Trump interfered in Epstein’s case, according to a source familiar with the deposition. He said Trump never gave instructions or played any role in Epstein’s charges or his death.

Barr is the first of six former attorneys general — and the first of 10 individuals in total — to be subpoenaed by Comer.

Letters were also sent to former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Jeff Sessions and Alberto Gonzales, outlining the scope of the investigation and how their positions may have connected to knowledge of the Epstein case.

Additional subpoenas were issued to former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, along with Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton.

A committee spokesperson told the Daily Caller on Tuesday that the committee intended to withdraw Mueller’s subpoena, citing health problems that prevent him from testifying.

A Clinton-appointed federal judge on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration’s bid to unseal Epstein grand jury materials, dismissing the request as a “diversion.” (RELATED: Judge Rejects Trump DOJ Bid To Unseal Epstein Grand Jury Transcript As ‘Diversion’)

In his 14-page ruling, Judge Richard Berman said the testimony amounted to nothing more than “a hearsay snippet” of Epstein’s alleged conduct.
