Dog Man is back!
The latest installment in the Dog Man series — a spinoff from the smash hit Captain Underpants that took the big screen by storm earlier this year — is here, and PEOPLE can exclusively reveal its cover!
The canine-human superhero and his “Supa Buddies” return for another adventure in Dog Man: Big Jim Believes, the 14th installment in the majorly successful series from author and illustrator Dav Pilkey, out Nov. 11. And this one hits especially close to home, Pilkey says.

“This story is personal to me in many ways. Big Jim’s kind-hearted parents are a lot like my mom and dad growing up,” the author tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “The Dog Man books have evolved to become a love letter to my parents who believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.”
“When I was a kid, and had trouble fitting in elementary school because of my dyslexia and ADHD,” Pilkey recalls, “I always came home to a safe and loving home. My parents encouraged me to keep writing my own stories and creating comics. I’m grateful to them for their love, optimism and support.”
In Big Jim Believes, “despite the challenges and tragedies Big Jim faced as a child, he grows up to be a hero inspiring everyone around him,” the author says, adding that the book has “action, adventure and even a song kids can sing with their friends and family.”

Dog Man and his pals have been around since 2016. The canine hero first formed in Dog Man after an on-the-job injury resulted in Officer Knight having his dog Greg’s head sewn onto his body.
“With the head of a dog and the body of a human, this heroic hound digs into deception, claws after crooks, rolls over robbers and scampers after squirrels,” the book’s description reads. “Will he be able to resist the call of the wild to answer the call of duty?”
The last installment in the series, Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, hit shelves in December 2024. Ahead of its release, Pilkey told PEOPLE that with the book, he “wanted to share the origin story of my characters, as readers get to know more about Big Jim — a character who is playful, kind, overly optimistic and often misunderstood and who sometimes gets into trouble despite having the best intentions.”

In January, the beloved graphic novel series also hit the big screen, with its cast of colorful characters brought to life by Pete Davidson, Ricky Gervais, Isla Fisher and more.
And, as Dog Man fans await the release of Big Jim Believes, they can enjoy the star-studded, laugh-out-loud adaptation at home. The movie, released by Dreamworks and directed by Emmy-winner Peter Hastings, will be available to stream on Peacock on May 30.
