2025 Met Gala fashion is heating up.
Ahead of the annual star-studded event benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute on Monday, May 5, celebrities have descended upon New York City — and are already paying homage to this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The theme is tied to the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, which draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
According to Vogue, Miller said that dandyism could be defined as “dressing wisely and well.” She also described it as “a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To really push a boundary — especially during the time of enslavement, to really push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.”
From pre-Met Gala dinners to sightings outside the iconic Mark Hotel, stars like Doechii, Cynthia Erivo, Tyla and Sabrina Carpenter spent the weekend fueling excitement and anticipation for fashion’s biggest night.
