Disney Will Stop Reporting Subscriber Numbers for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+

Disney, following in the footsteps of Netflix and others, soon will no longer report the number of subscribers for its Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ streaming services.

Disney said it will no longer report paid subscribers or average revenue per unit (ARPU) for the trio of streamers — saying those metrics have become “less meaningful to evaluating the performance of our businesses.” The company will discontinue reporting subs and ARPU for Disney+ and Hulu with the first quarter of its fiscal 2026 (the last three months of calendar year 2025), and will no longer report the metrics for ESPN+ as of the September 2025 quarter.

“We are focused on managing our businesses to deliver growth in a sustained way, and to align our financial reporting with how we operate,” Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston wrote in quarterly earnings commentary released Wednesday. “Since we began reporting the number of paid subscribers and ARPU, our DTC strategy and the operating environment have evolved. Given this evolution, we plan to implement changes to our Entertainment and Sports financial disclosures.”

The execs said that “while we will no longer disclose subscribers and ARPU, we will provide information on Entertainment Direct-to-Consumer profitability.”

“We believe our reporting going forward will better align with changes in the media landscape, the unique nature of our integrated assets, how we operate our businesses, and will reflect how management evaluates the progress and success of our strategic initiatives,” the execs wrote.

For the June 2025 quarter, Disney‘s streaming revenue increased 6% and the segment turned a profit of $346 million.

As of the end of June, Disney’s combined Disney+ and Hulu subscribers reached 183 million, an increase of 2.6 million versus the previous January-March quarter. Core Disney+ subscribers stood at 128 million, up 1.8 million sequentially. (Disney said in May it had expected “modest increase” in Disney+ subs for the June 2025 quarter.) Hulu subscribers reached 55.5 million, a net gain of 800,000.

For the July-September 2025 period, Disney is projecting total Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions to increase by more than 10 million, primarily driven by the company’s expanded Charter deal. The company expects a “modest increase” in Disney+ subscribers for the current quarter.
