The Met Gala red carpet cleared out to make room for Diana Ross’s larger-than-life arrival.
The 81-year-old musical icon commanded the room when she arrived in a crystal-embellished gown with a feather boa shawl-turned-train that dramatically trailed behind her, covering roughly seven carpeted steps. She completed the look with a feather-trimmed hat sitting atop her voluminous curls.
Even more shocking was the fact that she designed the dress herself, per Harper’s Bazaar, with the cape featuring the embroidered names of all her children and grandchildren.
The jaw-dropping look captivated literally everyone, including Zendaya, who stopped on the carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art to express her adoration.
“Zendaya smiling as she watches Diana Ross own the #MetGala red carpet is a beautiful thing,” someone called out on X (formerly Twitter).
“Diana Ross looks absolutely spectacular. Blown away by her dress,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), as another called her “The Boss.”
“Diana Ross showing up and reminding everyone who tf she is,” another wrote of the moment that will inevitably go down in fashion history.
This marks the first time Ross has attended the Met Gala in over 20 years, with her last appearance at the fashion event in 2003 with Tom Ford.
Helmed by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and benefiting the NYC museum’s Costume Institute, this year’s theme was titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
