Dexter Morgan isn’t dead yet.
After many near misses and attempted murders, the titular Dexter is, apparently, immortal. Or, at least according to the teaser trailer for the upcoming spinoff Dexter: Resurrection, he’s very lucky.
“We thought it would be the end, but he’s a remarkably resilient guy,” Michael C. Hall, who has played the titular character since 2006, told Vanity Fair. “So the possibility was always — at least for me — percolating.”
Dexter: Resurrection will follow everyone’s favorite serial killer hunter as he chases his missing son, Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott), to New York City. Though he’s determined to make things right again, Dexter’s past may catch up with him quicker than he can catch up with Harrison.
Here’s everything to know about Dexter: Resurrection — including which members from the original series that fans can expect to see.
Warning: Dexter and Dexter: New Blood spoilers ahead!

Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection.
Taking place just a few weeks after New Blood ends, Resurrection finds Dexter alive and well, despite taking a bullet to the chest from his son, Harrison. When he wakes up from a coma and realizes that his son isn’t there, the serial killer travels to N.Y.C. to look for him.
Hall told Vanity Fair that the father-son dynamic is a major focus point of this new series.
“Dexter has a lot of hesitation about making contact, which is a fundamental part of the tension that is pervasive for the first bit of the season,” the actor said. “Harrison revealed himself to be, and remains, an all-the-more potent connection to Dexter’s tiny sense of humanity.”
He continued, “He craves it, in spite of himself, so it’s a major bolt of thread running through his interior life and the life of the season.”

New Blood‘s David Magidoff will also return as police detective Teddy Reed.
New cast members include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet and David Dastmalchian. Peter Dinklage will guest star as Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist with a secret dark side, and Uma Thurman will play his head of security.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and Emilia Suárez will also appear in the series.
What has Michael C. Hall said about returning to Dexter?

James Remar as Harry Morgan and Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection.
In a 2025 interview with Vanity Fair, Hall revealed that he was the one who pushed showrunner Clyde Phillips to bring his character back from the dead.
After New Blood, Hall asked Phillips to figure out a way his character could survive. Within a week, Resurrection was born.
But don’t expect the same old Dexter Morgan. The prequel series Original Sin, which follows a young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) 15 years before the events of the first series, influenced how Hall approached this new iteration of a familiar role.
“The character was severely traumatized by a lot of what happened to him in the original incarnation, and is only now at a place where he’s able to shed that,” Hall told Vanity Fair.
He continued, “Spending time with that [Original Sin] material helped embroider and color in what was maybe a line drawing or an outline that I had in my mind from the beginning — so it’s a tool for us.”
