Devon Sawa’s ‘Insanely Awesome’ Announcement Has Fans Saying the Same Thing originally appeared on Parade.
Devon Sawa became a teen heartthrob in the 1990s and 2000s after his role in Casper alongside Christina Ricci. It took Sawa under a minute to win over fans, which is literal because he spent roughly 45 seconds on-screen at the end of the movie.
He went on to dazzle even more teenage fans in movies like Idle Hands and Wild America. The former child star was a frequent face in magazines like Tiger Beat and Bop and became wallpaper for teenage girls everywhere.
Devon Sawa and His Hair Are ‘Back Together’
Devon Sawa took to Instagram on Thursday, August 14, to share a message that sent fans’ pulses racing. He shared a photo of himself sporting his iconic teen heartthrob haircut on what looks like a once-folded-up poster from Y2K.
In the caption, he wrote, “Me and the hair? We’re back together… LINK IN MY BIO!!”

The link in Sawa’s bio took us to the Vera Bradley webpage, which looks like it came straight out of the ’90s with its graphic design. The header, which was written in a blocky bold font with a pink gradient color fade, said, “Most Perfect Couple.” Below that, the page said, “Premieres August 19” with an alarm clock icon on either side.
A YouTube trailer for Most Perfect Couple showed a photo of 46-year-old Sawa with his old haircut, looking lovingly at a brunette woman. In the video, a voiceover said, “This fall, Vera Bradley made one woman’s Y2K Devon Sawa fan-fiction a reality.”
Below the YouTube video, a vintage-looking Windows image showed Sawa and the woman again with a message to the right that said, “In 2002, at age 15, a young, Vera Bradley-clad Kristen Mulrooney wrote fanfiction about falling in love with Y2K heartthrob Devon Sawa. Twenty-three years later, we turned her story int a film starring a now 40-year-old Kristen and 46-year-old Devon as their teenage selves. Dreams really do come true.”
We’re not sure what to make of all this so we reached out to a rep for Vera Bradley for more information. In the meantime, Sawa’s fans are in an uproar over this announcement and a look at the Y2K heartthrob all grown up and sporting his old hairstyle.
Fans Are Freaking Out Over Devon Sawa’s Announcement
One excited fan exclaimed, “Oh my goodness 😂 What is this for? I’m not sure if a 40 yo is allowed posters on her wall any more!”
Another mirrored that message, writing, “omg omg omg omg!! 😍😍😍😍😍 THIS haircut still has me in a chokehold.”
“OMG DEVON!!! 😍 👏” another wrote.
Yet another chimed in, “😍oh mah goodness, Dev @d.sawa If you dont stop it. Just kidding, we love it. Never stop. 👏👏👏😂”
A fifth Sawa fan wrote, “OH my goodness. Young me is bugging out right now.”
A few comments called the post “iconic,” while another declared, “This is insanely awesome!”
It’s pretty clear that Sawa’s fans are more than a little excited to see their former teen icon in this epic throwback to the early 2000s.
