The Colorado football coach laughed it off while on former NFL player Asante Samuel’s podcast

Before announcing his bladder cancer diagnosis last week, Sanders had been away from his team in Boulder this summer
Deion Sanders is deflecting — just like he used to do in his days as an NFL cornerback!
In a guest spot on retired NFL player Asante Samuel’s podcast Say What Needs To Be Said, Coach Prime pushed back on the host, after he asked about Sanders’ rumored relationship with actress Karrueche Tran.
“Don’t kill the messenger,” Samuel said on Thursday, July 31. “Everyone seen Karrueche Tran by your side during your hospital visit. Everyone wants to know what that friendship is.”
Sanders, 57, immediately broke out into a wide smile, but batted down the question.

“We got a bad connection,” the Colorado Buffaloes head coach joked before making noises that sounded like their call had dropped. “I can’t hear [you].”
The duo sparked dating rumors last week after a video documenting Sanders’ health issues this past year showed Tran crying at his hospital bedside, as he underwent surgery for the removal of his bladder.

The Hall of Famer revealed his cancer for the first time on Monday, July 28 in a lengthy press conference in which he appeared alongside his physician Dr. Janet Kukreja and Lauren Askevold, the University of Colorado football team’s assistant athletic trainer.
In the video produced by his son Deion Sanders Jr.’s company Well Off Media, Tran, 37, appeared multiple times.
“We are dealing with bladder cancer,” Tran said at one point, after pausing for a moment to cry before the former NFL star was taken into the operating room.
“He is having his bladder removed and they will create a new bladder with one of his intestines,” she explained to viewers.
Sanders’ health and his absence from the team in Boulder had been an ongoing storyline all summer, until his press conference last week where he shared the cancer news.
Prior to last week, former Dallas Cowboys star had been a frequent fixture in videos posted by his son while at their Texas estate, where the elder Sanders went fishing and tentatively enjoyed an ice bath — all the while alluding to his health issues but never offering details.
In 2023, Sanders was engaged to Tracey Edmonds before the couple called it quits that December in a joint statement. “We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life AS FRIENDS and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we’ve shared together,” the former couple wrote at the time.
Tran dated Chris Brown in an on-and-off relationship from 2011 to 2015, and was previously linked to Rob Kardashian.
