Debbie Allen is finally having her Met moment.
The iconic actress, producer and author, 75, is taking to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time at the 2025 Met Gala on May 5 in New York City alongside her husband, Norm Nixon, and doing so in grand style.
Dressed by Oscar-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell — who recently took home the trophy at this year’s ceremony for his work in Wicked — Allen rocked a gorgeous red ensemble at the event. Tazewell even bejeweled Allen’s Clergerie shoes! He also designed her hat, and the actress carried a Judith Leiber bag. Tazewell also outfitted Nixon and completed his look with Scarosso shoes and a hat by Worth & Worth by Orlando Palacios.
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the dress code is “Tailored for You,” and her look is perfectly in tune with both.
But before Allen and Nixon arrived, she took PEOPLE behind the scenes while she got ready for the evening. Ahead, see how their evening unfolded!
