Dean Cain is looking back on his experience working with Teri Hatcher on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
During an appearance on the Inside of You podcast, the 58-year-old actor recalled meeting the Desperate Housewives alum, 60, during a chemistry read for the ABC series, which ran for four seasons from 1993 to 1997.
“The last one [to do a chemistry read] they said was Teri,” he told host Michael Rosenbaum. “They go, ‘Teri wants you to go and run lines with her.’ No other girl had asked me to run lines.”

“She’s in this room and she goes, ‘You don’t like me, do you? We were at the network together. You never talked to me. You didn’t say hi to me,’” he added. “I go, ‘You didn’t say hi to me either. I was just trying to get a job. They never paired us up. I had no reason to talk to you.’”
“But that right there was the relationship between Lois and Clark. Lois drove the series, and that was her.”
When asked if it was “good experience” filming with Hatcher amid her rumors that she can be “difficult” to work with, he responded, “Overall, it was amazing. Incredible. What a way to start a career, what a way to learn what doing a one-hour series is like.”

He also addressed whether Hatcher was “easy to work” with on the set, saying, “Sometimes [it was] the greatest thing in the world and sometimes a lot more difficult.”
“There were times where we had great chemistry. There were times where it was just the easiest thing in the world,” he said. “I’m a team guy. I’m real simple. Plug me in and let’s go. I’m here to get this done as fast as we can.”
When Rosenbaum noted that it sounded as though the actor was “excited to be there and sometimes maybe she wasn’t,” he replied, “I guess that could be that.”
“But also, it seemed like I just wanted to finish and go home. I almost feel like she didn’t,” he continued. “There were times where I felt like, ‘I don’t think she wants to go home because she’s worried about this one little thing that has nothing to do with what we’re doing. And that’s slowing us down for two and a half hours. Like, I don’t understand.’”
He recalled Hatcher having “her own makeup done in her trailer,” adding, “Her makeup people couldn’t touch anybody else [while] I’m in the trailer with everybody there. I didn’t care. There wasn’t a thing for me.”
Representatives for Hatcher did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

While their approaches to the work were decidedly different, Cain admitted Hatcher is “the better actor,” adding, “She carried the show. I just got to react off her. It worked wonderfully. It was a great pairing.”
Cain went on to praise Hatcher as “an icon,” adding, “I still think — no offense to anybody else’s Lois Lane — but I still think she’s the best Lois Lane of all time.”
The actor made it clear that any issues between the pair are water under the bridge, saying, “We’re still very friendly. We didn’t have a big [falling out]. There was no like, ‘I’m not talking to her.’”
“There was a time she wasn’t talking to me for a short time,” he added. “But I’m an athlete, man. If there’s guys on my football team, we’re going to hash it out so that we can still play ball together.”

The pair reunited in 2017, over 20 years after Lois & Clark concluded, for a selfie snapped from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
“Soaring together again,” Hatcher wrote on both Twitter and Instagram. “So fun to reunite. Thanks to #bridgeclimbsydney.”
The actress smiled as she wrapped her arms around her former costar, similar to what her character, Lois Lane, had so often done with Superman.
