Shepard says he should “wear socks at the pool” to spare people from seeing his feet
Dax Shepard joked about the ongoing saga of the decline of his once “attractive” feet — which have morphed into “hideous” features that should be covered in socks, even at the pool.
“How are your beautiful feet? I know your feet were something you were very proud of,” host Jimmy Kimmel asked the Armchair Expert podcast host on the May 1 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I used to brag about my feet. I thought they were really attractive. I had feet-offs on this show,” Shepard said, recalling the time he and Kimmel compared their feet during a previous appearance on the talk show.

But this was pre-foot trouble, Kimmel said, explaining, “The first time I met you, you told me how nice your feet were and I asked you to take off your socks … because I was going to show you how nice my feet are. But then I looked at your feet and thought, no. Yours are even better than mine.”
“Well, I won the battle, not the war. You won the war,” Shepard said, explaining “in rapid succession” how a series of foot problems ruined his once-beautiful feet: “I had a toenail fall off. I had a surgery that made a miniature toe,” Shepard said. “And the newest development is the toe next to the big toe, to compensate, it has just curled completely over to mind the gap that the baby toe has now.”
The Parenthood alum said he was swimming with wife Kristin Bell, looked at his foot, and realized, “I said I have a comb over now. Like, if you look at the profile of my foot [it’s] like our president’s hair,” he said, a reference to Donald Trump’s infamous hairdo.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I know it was such a big deal for you,” Kimmel riffed about Shepard’s previous affinity for his feet. “It’s hubris. It’s, ‘I’m flying too close to the sun.’ It’s all those things where I was too vain and I was smited,” Shepard joked. “I deserve it and they’re hideous.”
He shared that he had taken his daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9, to Hawaii for spring break, and while on the beach, “I thought, ‘doesn’t matter what I do here’ “ — he gestured to his face — “or here” — he waved his palm over his midsection “[because] when your eyes make their way down you might be like ‘Oh not bad for a 50-year-old — Oh my goodness he’s got a combover!’ ”

“I would have to wear socks at the pool,” Shepard said.
“We’re going to have to get you some special orthopedic shoes,” Kimmel replied, prompting Shepard to suggest “just socks that look like good toes.”
