Dave Franco Is ‘Open’ to Playing Luigi Mangione in a Biopic if It’s With the ‘Right People’: ‘No One Has Approached Me About It Yet’

Dave Franco has responded to fancasting that he should play Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year, in a biopic.

In the latest episode of Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” the actor and filmmaker — who is currently promoting his new horror film “Together” with wife Alison Brie — confessed that he is “open” to the idea when asked by a fan.

“Oh, how do I answer this,” Franco began. “Um… no one has approached me about it yet, I’ll say that.”

After the 27-year-old Mangione was arrested in December for the alleged murder of Thompson, social media went wild with theories of who should play him in a movie, with many singling out Franco due to their similar facial features and eyebrows.

“More people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened,” Franco said of him potentially starring in a Mangione biopic. “So let’s just say I’m open if it’s the right people, and let’s leave it at that.”

Mangione is currently awaiting trial after being indicted on 11 state charges and four federal ones, including first-degree murder, with federal prosecutors seeking the death penalty in his case. Though a feature film about Mangione is not yet in the works, several documentaries were announced soon after his arrest, including one from celebrated documentarian Alex Gibney.

Franco just received an Emmy nomination for his guest role on Seth Rogen’s “The Studio” and is next set to appear in the Colleen Hoover adaptation “Regretting You” and the “Now You See Me” sequel. “Together” is out in theaters now via Neon.
