It never hurts to ask.
Taylor Mosley and her husband were in the car getting gas when their son, Easton, spotted a fire truck beside them. Mosley joked that Easton should ask the firefighters if he could honk their horn — but, to her surprise, “he said, ‘Okay, I’ll do it.’ “
Mosley spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about watching the sweet moment and how she instilled confidence in her kids.
“I was totally kidding,” she says. “As an 11-year-old, I never would have said, ‘Yes, I’ll do that,’ and put myself out there.”
Despite telling Easton she was “just kidding,” her comment gave him the courage to step outside his comfort zone.
“He asked, ‘Can I really do that?’ ” she recalls.
Mosley told Easton to get permission from his dad, which he did. The couple watched as Easton approached the firefighters and struck up a conversation before hopping into the firetruck.

Since it was his first time behind the wheel, he needed a bit of guidance from the firefighters before covering his ears and releasing two blaring honks.
“He was just so excited. He’s my little daredevil. He’ll do whatever,” Mosley shares. “We’ve given him that confidence. He wasn’t nervous, he was excited to do it.”
Mosley says the positive experience had a lasting impact on her son, who may want to get involved in the fire department when he is older.

“I have always told him, if you want to do something, do it. Nothing is going to stop you. Have the confidence to do it, and you can accomplish anything,” she continues. “I try to step back, watch them do it from a distance, and hope they’re brave enough to do it.”
Mosley has been leading by example, showing Easton and her 4-year-old daughter the importance of trying new things while documenting her life on TikTok. The video of Easton went viral, amassing 9.6 million views.

“I have tried to not let anything stop me,” Mosley shares. “If you put yourself out there on TikTok, you have to do your own thing, and find the people who you relate to the most and hope they like you back in return. It takes a lot of confidence to put yourself out there, but I try to nowadays.”
Mosley says she’s received a lot of support from people in the fire department or related to firefighters after sharing the sweet video of Easton.
“The comments said how much the firefighters truly love that and this is as much of a joy for them as it is for the kids,” she shares. “Don’t be scared and go talk to them, they’re just people, they’re just little big kids too, and they love playing with the buttons and playing with all the toys.”
