Daily Caller Senior Editor Amber Duke said Monday on Fox Business’ “The Evening Edit” that socialist Democrat NYC mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani’s core constituencies “don’t get” the effects of communist and socialist policies because they haven’t experienced them yet.
Concerns from both Republicans and Democrats have grown over Mamdani’s policies and his refusal to denounce phrases like “globalize the intifada” after securing the primary Democrat mayoral nomination in June. While discussing Mamdani, Fox host Elizabeth MacDonald asked Duke whether young voters — who heavily supported Mamdani — understand that under communism, leaders and the inner government officials “take everybody’s stuff” and “live the high life.” (RELATED: Mark Halperin’s Guest Describes ‘Only Real Way’ For Mamdani To Lose Based On New Poll)
“Well, that’s the sad part, Liz, is that they don’t get it because Zohran Mandani’s two core constituencies were, as you said, one, young millennials and Gen Z-ers who have frankly never lived in a time where they’ve seen the death toll from communists and socialist policies,” Duke said.

“And even on a more local level, they’ve never lived in a New York City that is pre-Rudy Giuliani’s crackdown on crime and rebuilding of the economy,” Duke added. “His second constituency is wealthy white liberals who are suffering from immense feelings of guilt for their privilege and feel like voting for him is going to make them feel better. Neither of those groups are going to have their eyes opened by this.”
If elected in November, Mamdani plans to implement policies like raising the minimum wage to $30, launching government-run grocery stores and taxing “richer and whiter” neighborhoods. While Republicans have raised concerns over the proposals, reports have circulated that some business owners in the city are considering fleeing if Mamdani takes office.
After Mamdani secured the primary, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman voiced concerns about how the policies could hurt the country’s largest city. Posting to X, Ackman called Mamdani’s proposals “dangerous and economically unviable,” warning that “the city cannot print money, and this federal government won’t bail NYC out if things go bad.”
According to New York Times data, Mamdani beat former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo by 10 points among “middle income” voters and by roughly 13 points among “higher income” voters, while Cuomo led “lower income” voters by an estimated 13 points.
NYT data also shows Mamdani won white voters by roughly five points, Hispanic voters by about six points, and Asian voters by roughly 15 points. In contrast, Cuomo held strong support from black voters, beating Mamdani by around 18 points.
