Daily Caller senior editor Amber Duke predicted Thursday President Donald Trump could face a “revolt” if he supported legislation that could provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Republican Rep. Maria Salazar of Florida introduced H.R. 4393 Tuesday, calling it a “bold, historic and commonsense” bill to reform immigration in a release. Duke told podcast host and Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese on “Vince” that Trump would “ultimately listen” to his supporters, noting the backlash that occurred when two of Trump’s prominent supporters floated expanding certain visas. “I think that Trump base will revolt if they catch wind of this,” Duke told Coglianese. “If there’s any indication that the president is interested in this moving forward, there’s going to be hell being raised the same way that there was when Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy started floating the idea of expanding the H1B visa program and then Trump himself has been flip-flopping on this idea of giving a pass to Illegal immigrant farm laborers and restaurant workers. He has suggested that he has some plan to exempt them from the mass deportation operation.”

Trump issued several executive orders to address illegal immigration and border security, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations upon taking office Jan. 20. Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of gang members on March 15.
During Thursday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that while Trump hadn’t reviewed the legislation, he would not support amnesty when questioned by Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese.

Authorities in Houston arrested two men on June 20, 2024, and charged them with capital murder in the rape and murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray. In February 2024, Jose Antonio Ibarra, an immigrant from Venezuela who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, was arrested by University of Georgia police and charged with murdering 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.
