If you care to find Cynthia Erivo, look to the Met Gala red carpet tonight. The Oscar nominee stepped out to the big event wearing a custom Givenchy couture look designed by Sarah Burton. The dramatic ensemble featured a sliced jacket and corset embroidered with crystals, paired with a layered black tulle skirt.
Of course, her signature nails matched too.
The Wicked star is fresh off a major awards season run, where she earned several nominations for her portrayal of Elphaba. The film, which soared at the global box office and garnered 10 Academy Award nominations, was a career-defining moment for the actress and singer.
She also opened the Oscars with her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande in a viral medley performance that included “Defying Gravity” and “Home.” The duo are currently gearing up for the release of Wicked: For Good, the second installment of the two-part musical adaptation, which hits theaters in November.
Her fashion choices throughout the year have leaned heavily into avant-garde silhouettes and textured details, from her sculptural Thom Browne look at the Wicked Mexico City premiere to her metallic fringe Givenchy gown at the SAG Awards.
At last year’s Met Gala, she stunned in a two-piece Thom Browne ensemble that complemented “The Garden of Time” theme.
Erivo’s Met Gala appearance tonight arrives just weeks before the release of her second album, I Forgive You, out June 6. In a recent interview, she named Kendrick Lamar and Doechii as dream collaborators, calling Lamar’s creative process “sublime” and expressing admiration for Doechii’s theatricality and sound. “I just think we’ll have a good time…Having met her several times at this point, she’s just a really cool person,” Erivo said.
Between her music, acting, and unmistakable style, Erivo has become a red carpet fixture known for her bold, narrative-driven fashion. In her ELLE Women in Hollywood profile last year, she said, “I love fashion. Those things feed my soul.”
