NewsNation host Chris Cuomo tore into Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) on Tuesday for canceling a planned appearance on his prime-time show at what Cuomo said was the last minute.
Cuomo said Kennedy is a guest “I really like bringing on,” and is a fan of “the way he discusses things and mocks certain things.”
“He hears that I’m talking about [Tina] Peters, they pull him out. He doesn’t even call me himself,” Cuomo said of the senator, calling his backing out minutes before the scheduled interview “very poor form.”
“I’ve been in this business a really long time,” Cuomo continued, “and nobody does that unless they’re a coward.”
The host said he was planning to have Kennedy on to discuss issues relating to elections and voter security, including false claims promoted by President Trump and his allies after the 2020 election as well as other topics in the news this week.
“I’m not here to smash and bash. I lay out things as plainly as possible,” Cuomo said. “But to bail? What a punk a‑‑ move that is. And it’s a great indication of where we are today.”
Kennedy’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
Trump on Monday bashed Colorado Attorney General Philip Weiser (D) for the prosecution of former election clerk Tina Peters, who was found guilty of tampering with voting machines after Trump’s 2020 election loss to former President Biden.
